Reproduci bility of the Parameters Measured by Electrogastrography

Abstract

BACKGROUND/AIMS: The aim of this study was to investigate the reproducibility of electrogastrography (EGG) parameters.
METHODS
Twenty six healthy subjects participated in this study. After an overnight fast, EGG was performed at 10 A.M. All subjects were recorded in the three sessions fo 3 consecutive days. It was defined as a significant change if the EGG result such as normal o abnormal was changed in the three sessions.
RESULTS
The mean difference in the percentage of nor mal frequency was 13.9 +/-10.9% in the three preprandial sessions and 2.1 +/-4.3% in the three post prandial sessions, which showed significant difference (p=0.010). The mean difference of the period dominant power was 25.6 +/-38.5 Volt2 in the three preprandial sessions and 139.7 +/-189.1 Volt2 in the three postprandial sessions, which showed significant difference (p=0.004). The significant change of EGG results occurred in 39.3% of the subjects in preprandial state and in 21.4% of the subjects in postprandial state (p=0.146).
CONCLUSIONS
The reproducibility of the EGG parameters may be problematic. Therefore, the better method to improve it and the parameters with better reproducibility need to be developed.
