Abstract

Epidural steroid therapy is an effective and commonly applied therapy for chronic back pain, particularly a herniated disc. Complications from an epidural steroid injection are rare, but can be disastrous when they do occur. We experienced a case of transient, profound paralysis and headache after an epidural steroid injection with methylprednisolone. The purpose of this study was to alert pain therapists to the potentially devastating complications that can occur when they conduct an epidural block blindly using methylprednisolone with polyethylene glycol.
