Clinical Observation on Non-visualizing Kidney

Abstract

A clinical observation was male on the non-visualizing kidney of the in-patients in the Department of Urology, Seoul National University Hospital during the period from January, 1967 to June, 1969 and the following results were observed. 1. Of 848 cases hospitalized, IVP was performed on 346 cases. Among these 88 cases revealed non-visualizing kidney giving a rate of 25.4 %. 2. Sex difference was not present and age distribution ranged from 3 to 74 years. 3. About a half of 88 non-visualizing kidneys showed abnormal renal function. 4. Of the causes of non-visualizing kidney, renal tuberculosis was listed as the most frequent(28 cases or 31.7%) in parenchymal origin and the urinary tract stone (20 cases or 22.7) in obstructive origin. 5. Nephrectomy was performed in 43 cases (48.9 %).
