Abstract

Management of urinary-vaginal fistula has been a challenge for centuries. Basically, procedures for urinary-vaginal fistula continue to follow Sim's concepts of adequate exposure, aseptic technique, and meticulous closure. Moreover, if any of these factors is ignored, the rate of successful repair is disappointing. 17 Patients with urinary-vaginal fistula admitted to the Department of Urology, Kyungpook National University Hospital during last 5 years were reviewed with particular attention being paid to the relationship between anatomical location or the fistula and repair methods. 16 of 17 urinary-vaginal fistulas were repaired using various surgical methods and one remaining case was managed with catheterisation only. All except one case were cured without any serious problem.
