Abstract

The donor sites for bone graft in oral and maxillofacial region are various as follows calvarium, rib, ilium and tibia. Ilium of these is one of common sites because it have low complication morbidity, sufficient volume and convenient technique. Although complications are rare, but there are arterial injury, ureteral injury, herniation, chronic pain, nerve injury, infection, fracture and scar. Fracture of iliac bone as a donor site can happen when osteotome has been excessively used and attached muscle has been pulled. We experienced the fracture of iliac bone as a donor site. The patient was 48 years old male which had been performed on sinus lifting and iliac graft at partial edentulous ridge on maxilla. In order to preventing of fracture of iliac bone after procurement, we review the anatomy of ilium with related muscle and literatures.
