Abstract

Fractures of the ankle joint occur in approximately one to two people per 1,000 people per year. Among them, fractures involving the posterior malleolus account for up to 44% of all ankle joint fractures. According to studies that have been compiling research data thus far, the prognosis for ankle fractures related to the posterior malleolus is poor. Despite several published studies, there are still differences of opinion on the treatment methods for posterior malleolus fractures. This paper presents the overall concept of posterior malleolus fractures and introduces the latest knowledge and matters to be considered during treatment.
