Abstract

Despite the established theoretical potential of dual-energy CT (DECT), the growing prevalence of dual-source CT, and rapid peak kilovoltage switching CT, it is not frequently used in routine clinical cardiovascular imaging, especially outside academic institutions. The recently introduced dual-layer CT offers several advantages over DECT analysis for routine clinical use. This review aims to illustrate the basics of DECT, including dual-layer CT, and its applications for cardiovascular imaging.
