Review of Neck Pain, Kyphotic Change in the Cervical Spine and Exercise Treatment in Pilots

Abstract

Neck pain is the most common symptom with lower back pain among musculoskeletal symptom for the general population and pilots, in particular. Pilots are easily exposed to high gravity (G) force. During exposure to high G force, the neck is under high pressure and load. This can result in neck pain or the kyphotic change of the spine. And the kyphotic change in the cervical spine is one of the causes of neck pain. Other causes of neck pain are night vision goggle (NVG) and, whole body vibration (WBV) in helicopter pilots. We reviewed previous researches about exercise treatments for neck pain in pilots.Studies show the effectiveness of various exercises in reducing neck pain and strengthening the neck muscles.
