Abstract

Clinical review and analysis of all patients with pyogenic osteomyelitis were made in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery, Chungnam National University during the period of January 1968 to October 1974. The following results were obtained. 1. The disease is increasing gradually in its incidence and in its morbidity every-year. 2. The highest incidence was found among 10 to 20 year-old patients. 3. The most commonly affected sites were femur, tibia and humerus in that order. 4. Coagulase (+) staphylococcus was the most common infecting organism present in 68.8% of all cases. 5. The sex distribution was 109 males, or 71.3% and 45 females, or 28.7% in ratio of 2:1. 6. In this series of cases. 91.3% of staphylococcus aureus was found to be resistant to penicillin.
