Radiological analysis of lymphangiography in 130 cases

Abstract

As bipedal lymphangiography is a good method of visualization of retroperitoneal lymphatics and lymph nodes, this procedure plays an important role in lymphedema and intrapelvic tumor, such as carcinoma and lymphoma.Although anatomical details of lymphatics are well demostrated by lymphangiography below L-2 level, dynamics oflymphatics and deep lymphatics of thorax, head and neck are easily demonstrated without complicaitons and severesuffering through lymposcintigram, so which is more emphasized in this time. At the Dept. of Radiology and NuclearMedicine, Yonsei University Hospital 130 patients were examined with direct lymphagiography of Knmonth's methodfrom Oct. 1975 to Dec. 1980 and 14 patients were examined with lymphoscintigram in recent 1 year. The results areas follows; 1. the lymphatics and lymph nodes below L-2 level are enoughly demonstrated by bipedal lymphagiographyfor staging of carcinoma and lymphoma, and follows-up study in the patients who had been experienced inlymphangiography is enoughly obtained by plain film for 4-5 months without repeat study. 2. Findings oflymphoscintigram in thorax, head and neck which are the difficult areas of demonstrating with lymphangiogram, aresufficiently helpful. 3. It is possible that follow-up study can be easy with lesser complications and sufferingsof patients throught lymphoscintigram. 4. Area of radiation field is conveniently planned with usinglymphagiography and lymphoscintigram.
