Computed tomographic findings of a primary intrathoracic goiter

Abstract

Intrathoracic goiters can be classified primary and secondary. The presence of vascular stalks with cervicalthyroid gland makes intrathoracic goiter secondary, while absence of it, primary. Primary intrathoracic goiters, being very rare in the recent 50 year reports, are regared to make up only 0.2 to 1 percent of all goiters removed surgically. Authors could not find CT appearance of primary intrathoracic goiter from extensive review ofliterature. We recently experienced a case of intrathoracic goiter in asymptomatic kidney donor patient, and its chest X-ray, chest CT and 131 I-thyroid scan appearances are presented herein.
