Abstract

Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors revealed effective results of anti-premature ejculation in recent studies. We performed doulbe blind, randomized study with sertraline and placebo. Twenty male patients with premature ejaculation were randomly assigned to treatment with sertraline(N=12) or placebo(N=8). In this study the patients were into treatment group receiving 50mg sertraline daily for 6 weeks and 1 tablet placebo daily for 6 weeks. The response to treatment was assessed by an interview with the couple about ejaculation time, thrust, erectablity. The overall improvment was 75% in ejaculation and thrust with sertraline. Five of the patients who started with oral sertraline complained mild gastrointestinal problem and two of he patients complained dizzeness. Our results confirm that the sertraline is effective agent for premature ejaculation without severe complication.
