Abstract
-
In most cases, thyrotoxicosis is developed by hyperthyroidism associated with excessive thyroid hormone secretion. Occasionally, however disruption of thyroid follicles releasing excessive thyroid hormone into the circulation may cause temporary thyrotoxicosis without hypersecretion. It is mostly related to subacute thyroiditis, painless thyroiditis and infiltration of the thyroid parenchyma by malignant tumor. Also, acute hemorrhagic necrosis of thyroid nodules, mainly of autonomously functioning ones, leads to transient thyrotoxicosis. It is seldom that a transient thyrotoxicosis is caused by acute hemorrhagic infarction of cold thyroid nodule. Recently we experienced such a case and present the case here.
