Clinical Observation on Summer Ashma in Korea

Abstract

We observed the clinical pictures of the patients with recurrent asthmatic attacks during summer from June to September visiting the Allergy Clinic of Severance Hospital in Yonsei University College of Medicine] The following results were obtained. 1) Summer asthma patients were 36(4%) of 880 patients with asthmatic symptoms. 2) Mean onset age of summer asthma was 32 year old and their mean duration of disease was 9.1 years. 3) Mean serum IgE value of summer asthma patients was 807IU/ml and mean peripheral blood eosinophil count was 846/mm3. Mean PC20 in methacholine challenge test was 0.68rng/rnl. 4) Mold was the most frequent causative allergen(34%) in summer asthma patients. Six patients(17%) showed negative reactions to all inhalant allergens.
