Abstract

Contracted chronic cholecystitis with gallstone may not be well observed in abdominal ultrasonography and be overlooked or missed. Most of these findings are diagnosed as chronic cholecystitis, but rarely congenital absence of gallbladder or porcelain gallbladder can be diagnosed in the same findings. In addition, the risk of developing gallbladder cancer in contracted chronic cholecystitis is higher than in usual chronic cholecystitis without shrinkage. Because it is difficult to distinguish contracted cholecystitis from early gallbladder cancer, there is a risk of misdagnosis. This case presents abdominal ultrasonography showing contracted chronic cholecystitis with gallstone in a 51-year-old woman who complained epigastric pain. Also, a literature review in differential diagnosis and directions of treatment of contracted chorionic cholecystitis will be provided.
