Abstract

A wide spectrum of diseases affect the gallbladder, from asymptomatic gallstones and complicated or uncomplicated acute/chronic cholecystitis to benign and malignant tumors. Trans-abdominal ultrasound is the imaging modality most widely used for initial screening because of its high sensitivity in the detection of gallbladder stones, real-time evaluation, and portability. Some gallbladder diseases distinctive features on ultrasound-but not all, complicating differential diagnosis. Understanding the patterns of imaging features on ultrasound offers valuable insight into differential diagnosis of gallbladder disease.
