Abstract

Titanium wear particle-induced osteolysis occurs mainly after hip arthroplasty. In rare cases, however, it can be associated with internal fixation implants used to treat fractures. This paper reports a case of osteolysis around the distal locking screw in a 74-year-old man, nine years after a proximal femoral nail anti-rotation (PFNA) insertion for the Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Osteosynthesefragen/Orthopaedic Trauma Association (AO/OTA) type 31A1 intertrochanteric fracture fixation.
