Personnel Management of Tuberculosis Workers: A Survey on the Job, Training and Performance of the Field Workers in Korea

Abstract

Since the national tuberculosis program has been introduced in 1962 with help of front-line tuberculosis workers, the role of these workers at city or gun-Ievel health centers in the operation of the national tuberculosis program cannot be neglected in many respects. A questionnaire survey using mailing method was conducted to give more information for the improvement of qualification of tuberculosis workers and placement of qualified workers, which in turn will improve the process and outcome of tuberculosis control in the national tuberculosis program. The general characteristics, service duration, type of licence they hold, educational background, monthly income and their attitudes towards income level, patient care loads and attitudes towards work loads in charge, self appraisal of their accomplishment, in-service education and utilization of learning experience from the training, subject to be _supplemented are given here. AIso, if they are satisfied with their present situation as tuberculosis worker or not, and if not what’s the cause of unsatisfaction, what they think most essential and desirable for the improvement of national tuberculosis program are given too.
