A Study on Angiotensin Converting Enzyne Activity in Pulmonary Tuberculosis

Abstract

Serum angiotensin converting enzyme(ACE) activity was measured monthly for average 9 months during antituberculous chemotherapy to evaluate the effect of treatment on serum ACE activity. The serum ACE level of 12 nonmiliary pulmonary tuberculosis patients and 20 normal control subjects were 3.38 ± 2.07 u/ml(mean±S.D.) and 4.59±1.65 u/ml respectively The serum ACE activity seems to be apparently lower in the patient group than in the control group. but without significant statistical difference(p > 0.05) There was no statistically significant alteration of serum ACE activity during 9 month antituberculous chemotherapy in 12 nonmiliary pulmonary tuberculosis patients(p > 0.05). We concluded that the serum ACE activity is not a useful indicator for the evaluation of clinical status in pulmonary tuberculosis patients during chemotherapy.
