Abstract

To identify the prognostic factors for the surgical outcome of eyes with rhegmatogenous retinal detachment and grade C proliferative vitreoretinophthy(PVR), the 63 patients who underwent vitrectomy at Seoul National University Hospital from Jan. 1994 to Dec. 1995 were followed for 6 to 24 months were enrolled. Among 64 eyes anatomic success rate was 79.7% and functional success rate was 34.4%. Factors analyzed in this study were as follows : age, sex, number of operation, preoperative lens status, penetrating or other trauma, giant tear, retinal dialysis, multiple tears, high myopia, endolaser, postoperative laser, type and extent of grade C PVR. The anatomic success was significantly negatively correlated to both the presence of anterior and posterior PVR and trauma and positively to the postoperative laser. The functional success had statistically significant negative correlation with anterior PVR and operation number.
